This virgin island barely 5.2 mi. long and only 70 ft. at its narrowest point its about 45 minuets north of Isla Mujeres is situated at the beginning of the second largest coral reef chain in the world, its beaches are shallow, clear, and calm, with an abundance of underwater life that will thrill any snorkeler, and is internationally famous for its flora and fauna, specially for its sanctuary birds of which more than 90 species are considered either resident or migratory.

The island is practically deserted; scarcity of fresh water has discouraged habitation by man, except for biologist who occasionally conducts isolated research.
